Hey,

You’re doing great. Every year poses new obstacles and challenges. Keep doing the best with what you have. 🙂

Onto the digital marketing news!

SEO & SAIO

  • Google’s latest Core Update on March 13th – what’s the general feedback? Many have seen ranking- and visibility-tool issues. Just a reminder that rankings change. Keep calm, and make updates to previously optimized pages when consistent declines are noticed. Here are initial observations:
    • Forum sites are losing visibility.
    • Mass-produced, ai-generated content is being devalued.
    • Established platforms (*cough cough* Reddit) and major retailers are gaining more search visibility.
  • Search Engine Journal recently provided a reminder on Google’s process for indexing and then ranking pages that appear in search results. Here are the 4 steps and how DBE’s optimization strategy aligns:
    • Discovery: Google learns the URL exists. DBE reviews sitemaps and provides recommendations for improvement as part of our Technical Audit.
    • Crawling: Google visits the URL to see what’s there. This is also covered in DBE’s Technical Audit.
    • Indexing: The page is added to Google’s database. DBE’s Technical Audit reviews Google Search Console indexing status for any errors that need remediation.
    • Serving/Ranking: When relevant to a query, the page may show in results. DBE ensures optimized pages are relevant to queries by recommending detailed tags and content upgrades.
Sounds simple, but success lies in the details.
  • 🤔 Insights from our VP of SEO/SAIO, Marc Engelsman: Last week, we reported on the importance and magnitude of ChatGPT’s 0.25% estimated volume of the search market. Now, EMARKETER posted Google’s share of traditional search referral traffic at 87.3%. Yet, in the “Beyond the chart” section is this nugget: “Only 20% of US consumers desire a greater use of AI-driven search engines.” Only 20%, huh? Twenty percent of an estimated 275 million US consumers (thanks, Perplexity) is still over 52 million consumers using AI search engines. Sometimes, you need to look at the actual numbers more than the share percentage.
  • Claude AI’s got new resources to pull from — a whole internet more! Anthropic announced that premium users in the U.S can now use Claude to search the web. We will keep an eye on this and let y’all know when we officially add it to our list of targeted SAIO chatbots.

Thoughts to Take With You… 💞

A beautiful excerpt from psychiatrist Veronica O’Keane’s A Sense of Self: Memory, the Brain, and Who We Are:

“Ultimately, what is memory without emotion – an endless repertoire of experiences without any human meaning. And emotion without memory? A shallow flitting from one object of desire to the next. Without emotions our hearts would not break, we would not grieve, but nor would we have memories rich with the people that we were drawn to and lived life with, even if only temporarily; the sort of memories evoked by meeting the cousins that you have not seen in years.”

Our brains contextualize stimuli from our five senses to create the intricate weaving of emotion and memories that is…us. Even written on the page, that task seems daunting. Yet, somehow, we are able to experience life so richly thanks to our bodies. Just food for thought….

(Highly recommend the read BTW!)
