  • You may have heard about the impact of the DeepSeek AI announcement on tech stocks last week. The ramifications of the new platform are still unfolding, but here’s an interesting report from Forbes: DeepSeek is now incorporated in Perplexity. Microsoft is also leveraging DeepSeek’s R1 model, according to PCMag. Both Perplexity and Microsoft say they are working around issues of privacy and censorship associated with DeepSeek’s Chinese ownership. We’re following these developments and will provide updates on how they do, or do not, impact Search AI Optimization (SAIO) strategies and tactics.
  • Search Engine Journal has a comprehensive “rundown” on Advanced Strategies for SEO and Marketing Synergy. This series of articles pushes B2B brands (principles also apply to B2C) to integrate and align strategies like SEO with authentic, trust-building and performance-driven initiatives. From our perspective, it is well worth the read, but here’s my favorite takeaway: outside branding is mattering more and more in SEO.

  • Don’t fall for Shiny Penny Syndrome this year. (What’s that for marketers, you say? It’s when marketers fall into the latest tech trends and suspend progress on current goals. Think Metaverse.) Marketing Dive has some observations as we step into a new year of experimenting with GenAI. Highlights include:
    • Consumer Unease: AI-generated ad videos were labeled more annoying than conventional ads
    • Efficiency: Marketers will continually experiment with utilizing GenAI for procedural/research/personalization tasks
    • So Many Choices: Deciphering the best GenAI tool for specific marketing needs can be difficult
