Hey y’all –

It’s that time of week – here’s the digital marketing scoop!

SEO & SAIO

  • You’ve heard us discuss the appearance of ads in AI responses – particularly with Google AI Overviews and Bing Copilot. Here’s the latest updates on how Copilot and AI Overviews are planning to change the appearance of ads in results pages. Side bar: many people are familiar with the acronym SERP for Search Engine Results Page; what do you think about using SAIRP for Search AI Results Page?
  • Contentful recently published the results of its AI use in the workplace survey. Results cover:
    • How much time is being saved using Gen AI tools (with 75% saying between 1-10 hours a week) to
    • Enthusiasm about Gen AI (Respondents were 26% very enthusiastic while Management/Leadership was 22% very enthusiastic). This enthusiasm is tempered with the acknowledgement that “generative AI can also put authenticity into question and a heavy hand is needed to produce positive outputs.”
If this sounds familiar, you may be remembering similar warnings DBE has posted in this newsletter and in our SAIO blogs.
  • Microsoft Bing announced the expansion of its generative search experience to include more informational queries like “how to effectively run a one on one” and “how can I remove background noise from my podcast recordings.” This “how-to” approach to presenting gen AI results aligns perfectly with the “how-to” content approach we’ve been advocating as one of the effective formats for gaining SAIO citations. (FYI, we’ve found FAQ formats are also highly effective.) Type “Bing generative search” into your Bing search bar to get a peek at how this looks and feels.

Solar Cookers International 🌠

You may be wondering… what are solar cookers? This charity’s name immediately got my attention because of it. According to their website, “3 in 7 people lack sustainable fuel to cook meals and make water safe to drink. So, Solar Cookers International provides cookers that use the power of the sun to purify water and cook food. To learn how you can help (and see what solar cookers look like), visit their website: Solar Cookers International.

Digital Marketing

  • Meta’s training it’s AI on your account data – well, all account data. We’ve all known this (directly or indirectly). Some have tried to post stories/posts that attempt to declare that their posts are their own, but this is, unfortunately, ineffective. Meta already has a license to use all content posted on its platforms as stated in their terms of service. Private posts and DMs are safe, but public posts are fair game. It’s all a great reminder of being careful with what you post.

Thoughts to Take With You… 💞

I’ve been reading more novels lately.

It’s absolutely wonderful to dive in a world far different from your own, but something struck me.

What if our day-to-day world is also an escape from the crazy books we read and shows we watch. With that in mind, doesn’t it make returning back to your life more meaningful?

When we value our daily lives as highly as the stories we delve into, we could have just as much fun on any old weekday as a heroine does on their perilous quests. Just a thought….

Live long and prosper 🖖

Houseplant P.S. 🪴

If you have a houseplant collection (or want to start one), there’s a lot of stuff you learn as you go.

  • How often should I water my plants?
  • Do I really need drainage holes on the bottom of my pots?
  • What are these little bugs? #Ew

It’s an adventure in itself! One of the voices that has helped me on my houseplant journey is @happyhappyhouseplant. She’s also got some useful guides on her website, too!
