Happy October! 🎃
There’s been a lot of rain around here. All this inside time can be great for reflection, but sometimes we reflect on overly stressful things. Slowing down your breath (especially exhales) can support our parasympathetic nervous system, which helps us stay calm. If you’re looking for something simple, try inhaling for a count of 4 and exhaling for the same amount. Yoga Journal has a great article and exercises to try if you’re looking for more.
Now, onto the digital marketing news!
- If you haven’t seen the news circling LinkedIn, here it is: Google was accidentally leaking Bard AI chats into public search results. #YIKES While AI chatbots are helpful, please stay vigilant with your information.
- How important are links for SEO success? Less today than yesteryear. According to Google’s search analyst Gary Illyes: links aren’t even among the top three most important ranking factors – “it hasn’t been for some time.” This is not news to us here at DBE as we’ve been saying for quite a while that links are just one tactic for leveraging off-website signals to reinforce keyword and content relevance to both the search engines and the searchers themselves.

- Cat’s outta the bag. 🐈⬅️👜 Google has been adjusting their ad prices to meet their revenue targets. Not really a secret, although we wish there could be more transparency. Differing POVs from “Stop using Google” to “Hey, it’s a business” in the article from Search Engine Land.
- eMarketer reports “Last year, for the first time, US adults spent more time watching digital video than traditional TV.” And the top, free video service used for watching videos? YouTube. TikTok and Facebook aren’t even close. What’s more, the usage by Gen Zs and Millennials are 82% and 78%. So maybe now is a good time to revisit the role of YouTube Ads in your digital marketing campaigns for 2024….
- TikTok is next on the AI assistant train. 🚂 The app’s new Creative Assistant will help you with best practices, get you started, and show top-performing ads in your target niche.
