This week’s What’s Hot Wednesday for Digital Marketers covers a variety of topics, from high-level to very tactical. And our Do Good Spotlight is on a for-profit this week: Bark, an innovator working to protect children from online predators.
- Want to know “What Are Marketing Campaign Priorities This Year And How Do They Drive Paid Media Spending?” This Marketing Charts article cites Nielsen report data on what campaign elements are getting the most attention. Audience Targeting tops the list of priorities at over 50% and, in a surprise (to us), Data Quality is fourth at 28%.
- This is good SEO news. Google Search Console upgrade makes it easier to remove or temporarily block from Google your site’s URLs you’re working to address.
Do Good Spotlight: Bark
We usually highlight (and donate to) a not-for-profit in this section.
This week, we’re spotlighting a for-profit innovator that’s helping parents understand how quickly and easily young children are approached and manipulated by online predators and provides a way for families to fight back.
Working with law enforcement, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and other organizations working for our kids’ physical and emotional safety, Bark educates and provides AI-based monitoring tools to parents.
We learned about Bark when we stumbled across an article on Medium and thought we’d share what we found chronologically. Be advised, the Medium post is more than disturbing, and you can jump right to the second and third link if you just want to learn about the product. But if you have young children and teens in your world, the Medium post is very eye opening. #childsafety @barktechco
- Have you noticed how hard it is to sell something new to people because they are content with their current situation? Great innovators know you need to first change their mindset so they have a new place for your product to “fit.” Steve Jobs is an oft-noted master of this. This article by Mark Bonchek for Harvard Business Review does a great job of simplifying the concept of reframing that innovation launch marketers need to tackle for success.
- Additional SEO news: Google has updated its mobile-first guidelines. This article from Search Engine Land toplines the changes as well as links to other resources, including the updated guide. Good info for everyone involved in your website design, development and SEO decisions.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the topics we covered this week, including what you think of Bark and their AI approach to combating criminals online.
Have a great rest of the week!
