Here are some of the other things we’re talking about at DBE this week:
- The “second golden age of audio” (the first being the golden age of radio) is the current state of podcasting according to this LA Times article. The piece starts with the news that music streaming giant Spotify agreed to pay around $230 million for Gimlet Media, a major podcasting player. It goes on to share data and statistics demonstrating the power of this relatively new channel. Read the full story here.
- Here’s a 5 minute YouTube Video called “How to Beat Machine Learning at Decision Making” that explains how machine learning works, its limitations, and why humans are better at decision making when data is limited, and long-term strategy is the goal. The DBE team is talking about this particularly in light of Google’s Responsive Ad machine learning approach, the goal of which is driving more clicks but not necessarily the right/most relevant clicks. We’re also jazzed that our team consistently beats the machine to drive results for our clients.
- DBE’s clients and potential clients know we use Moz tools to help gauge domain authority for websites as a baseline and then for measuring the ongoing improvements our SEO programs bring. Moz is making changes in the tool and using the news to shed light on what domain authority means and how to use it. We’re glad to see the emphasis Russ Jones, principal search specialist at Moz, puts on the tool being directional and not absolute.
- Google has changed how offers show up in Google local listings. Offers now have a dedicated space within the local panel. Here’s more from Search Engine Land.
We hope you liked this week’s brief. Let us know what you think if you get a chance, and have a great rest of the week!
