Today’s What’s Hot Wednesday for Marketers includes news about new features from Instagram, changes to search results in Google, and a new visual shopping feature in Snapchat.
Below are some articles we thought you would find interesting this week.
Instagram Testing New Features
With its tremendous growth in users, Instagram is continuing to make improvements to its platform to boost user engagement. The new features include a hashtag selector tool that allows users to add hashtags to a post that aren’t listed in the caption. The benefit to this tool is that it allows captions to be less cluttered while still offering the ability to utilize multiple hashtags for marketing purposes. Other new features include geo-fencing, which allows organic posts to be geographically targeted, and the ability to tag users in videos.
Google Changing Way Search Results are Displayed
In the 20 years since Google launched, the search results have looked pretty much the same with the primary result being a list of links. Although search results will still include a list of links, Google recently announced several updates that will add features that mirror top social media sites. The updates include the addition of news feeds, vertical video, photo-centric content and stories. Stay tuned for our point of view on this as we assess these changes…for now, here’s the story:
Snapchat Will Offer Visual Shopping with Amazon
Snapchat recently announced a new feature which will allow users to use their Snapchat camera to shop directly on Amazon. With the new feature, the user would point the Snapchat camera at an object, tap the screen, and hold the object. An Amazon card pops up on the screen with a link to purchase the item. The camera uses object recognition to identify the product or it can also use barcodes. This new feature is in limited testing currently but Snapchat plans to roll out to more users soon.
